Weeks 10 (May 4/5) + 11 (May 11/12) will be devoted principally to student performances / readings of new creative work.

The purpose of the performances / readings is to provide an opportunity for students to engage with contemporary poetry as creative writers, experimenters, and performers, in addition to the work we have done in the course to date as readers, thinkers, researchers, and authors of conference papers.

Based on what you have read, and written, this assignment invites you to make individual or collaborative creative contributions to contemporary poetry.

Work should be bold, thoughtful, conscious of contemporary contexts, and the outcome of your own creative investigation of the ideas or materials encountered in this course, or your own poetic practice.

Ways to think about it: What sort of subjects do I want to address?  What sorts of media do I want to use?  Is my work primarily concerned with the eye or the ear or voice or other or all senses?  For whom am I writing / performing?
Possibilities for performance include: live reading; video; audio; digital / electronic work.

Performances should be 5-7 minutes long. As with the conference papers, students will present work in groups, followed by critique and discussion.

Please rehearse and time your work.

The aim is to produce a very fun, energetic, thought-provoking, sophisticated event. Your individual / collaborative contribution will be rewarded according to relevance, thoughtfulness, ambition, execution, and commitment.
